Season’s Greetings from the Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack region of the Poconos!
December is always a busy month, and this year is no exception for the Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack region. The 23rd annual Hawley Winterfest 2022 will be December 9, 10, and 11 – but there’s a lot going on in an around Hawley, Lake Ariel, Honesdale, and Greentown even before then!
Here’s a quick run down of some of the fun activities going on in various parts of Wayne & Pike County during the first weekend in December, 12/1 through 12/5, 2022. Be sure to follow the links to visit the event page and make sure there haven’t been any changes.
12/1 – 12/15: Winterfest Trees for a Cause. Located in the Hawley Hub at 318 Main Ave, this holiday tree decorating contest is sure to be a lot of fun and be a huge benefit to local non-profits. Participants will show off their Christmas tree decorating skills while raising money for a charity of their choosing. The holiday trees will be on display through December 15. Come for inspiration and help a good cause and get some delicious coffee from Black & Brass Coffee Co.!
12/3, and 12/4: Candlelight Christmas Dinner at The Settlers Inn, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. The Settlers Inn is an iconic country inn and has a reputation for warm hospitality and unmatched cuisine. This enchanted Holiday evening will include Holiday Punch, a horse and carriage ride, farm to table feast, live music and exquisite desserts. 12/2/2022: Merry & Bright Family Night on the Stourbridge Line. Who needs the Polar Express? Wayne County PA has the Stourbridge Line at 812 Main St., Honesdale PA! The Ronald McDonald House of Scranton is sponsoring this holiday event centered around the wonder of Christmas and in celebration of families. The train will depart for The Christmas Village at 6pm, and guess who will be there? Guess!! SANTA! Hot chocolate, coffee, and Christmas cookies will be served too. The cost is $20 per adult and $15 for children age 3 and up. Registration is limited; get your tickets here.
12/2/2022: Open Mic Night at Cocoon Coffeehouse & Bakery. This event happens on the first Friday of every month from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Enjoy the talents of local folks while sipping on some Fair Trade Coffee, delicious fresh made pastries, and wine & draft beer by the glass.
12/2 & 12/3 WAHS Tip-Off Tournament & Holiday Toy Drive. In conjunction with the Tip Off Basketball Tournament, students from the Wallenpaupack Area High School’s Athletic Council, National Honor Society, and Visual Communications Class will be hosting activities for kids and families throughout this two day event. To participate in the activities, monetary and toy donations will be encouraged. There will be a concession stand with proceeds helping to support The Holiday Toy Drive. Friday Dec 2, 2022 from 3:00-8:00 PM. Saturday December 3, 2022: 2:00 – 8:00 PM. Wallenpaupack High School, 2552 Route 6 Hawley PA.
12/3 Lake Ariel Christmas Tree Lighting and Community Party. This fun event on E Shore Dr, Lake Ariel, PA is sponsored by the Lake Ariel Lion’s Club. Starting at 4:00 PM, in addition to the Tree Lighting, Santa will make an appearance. There will be food, drink, crafts, a bonfire and lots of activities for the kids. Also there will be a raffle with cash prizes as well as gift baskets and gift certificates. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.
12/3 Christmas Pony Rides at C & S Stables. From 12:00 – 4:00 pm at C & S Stables, 2361 Hancock Hwy, Equinunk PA. This fundraiser event is sponsored by the Horse Lovers 4-H Club. Helmets will be provided (but you can bring your own, too). There will be pony rides, pictures with Santa, a wreath sale, bake sale, and refreshments available. Donations requested.
12/3 Romping Radishes: Bird Count. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Join the Audubon bird count! Find out about winter bird watching and build a birdhouse to create your own bird watching station. Romping Radishes is for ages 5-8 and meets meet upstairs at the Cooperage (1030 Main St, Honesdale PA) at 11am. This free healthy living class for kids is supported through EITC funding and donations, and occurs monthly on the 1st Saturday of each month. A donation of $5 per child is suggested. Each program includes instruction, program materials, and a snack.
12/3 13th Annual Carbondale YMCA Christmas Festival. 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Greater Carbondale YMCA (82 N Main St, Carbondale PA) there will be a whole lot of fun Christmas festival activities, including Grinch School, games, refreshments, pictures with Santa, bounce houses, Winter Wonderland SWIMMING, and the City of Carbondale Light Parade. There will also be a BASKET RAFFLE with over 200 baskets for lucky winners.
12/3 Carbondale Public Library Holiday Pop Up Shop & Craft Sale. 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. A great display of vendors with a variety of homemade crafts and direct sales products for your LOCAL holiday shopping needs. This mini marketplace will be taking place inside the Carbondale Public Library (5 N Main Street, Carbondale, PA). Ornament making for the children from 11am to 2pm. Don’t miss the Santa Train in the morning and the Christmas in a Small Town parade in the evening.
12/3 Cookies for a Cause Raffle Fundraiser. Come to the Hamlin Community Library (518 Easton Turnpike, Lake Ariel, PA) for our Cookies for a Cause Sale and Raffle Fundraiser! All proceeds go towards assisting local NEPA Animal Rescues. Fill a box of cookies for $10! 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
12/3 Promised Land Sportsmen MEAT RAFFLE. 5:00 PM. Located at the Promised Land Volunteer Fire Department. 1054 Route 390, Greentown PA 18426. Meat Raffle, box-o-meat drawings and tricky tray, free beer and soda. Kitchen will be open selling food.
12/4 Beast Feast at Irving Cliff Brewery. 12:00 – 6:00PM. Irving Cliff Brewery is at 2 Chapel St., Honesdale, PA 18431. This amazing event benefits the Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau. Enjoy an afternoon of unique and unusual taste sensations! Try a bite of alligator patte! Enjoy the taste of local venison, rabbit stew, bison, elk, frog…. Does frog really taste like chicken? Tickets are $29.95. 20% of ticket revenue benefits the Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau. Please Bring a Friend! Cash bar with 15 craft beers, and local wineries and PA craft spirits!
